There's an error during configuation step of sys-process/procps.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Build systemd-9999
2. Try building procps-3.3.9-r1 (fails)
3. Build systemd-208-r3

libsystemd-login was renamed to plain libsystemd:

Well, I have no idea what to do with this. I doubt we are anywhere near forcing our users to using gold. I guess we may wait for new binutils, the systemd release isn't probably nearby anyway, or wait till users convince upstream to revert this thing.

what about *not* using the fake library and link directly to libsystemd?
as in, have procps's configure.ac with AC_CHECK_LIB verify in which the symbol is, and link to the correct library?
Comment 5 Michał Górny archtester Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev Security 2014-02-16 14:33:03 UTC
I guess it'd be better to use pkg-config -- the compat 'libsystemd-login.pc' adds proper '-lsystemd'.
Comment 6 Mike Gilbert gentoo-dev 2014-02-20 06:28:35 UTC
procps already uses PKG_CHECK_MODULES([libsystemd-login], ...). It uses AC_CHECK_LIB as a fallback.

systemd-209 (and 9999) does not install libsystemd-login.pc unless we pass --enable-compat-libs. So an easy fix would be to add --enable-compat-libs to the systemd ebuild.

A better long-term fix would be to do something like this:

  PKG_CHECK_MODULES([SYSTEMD], [libsystemd >= 209], [], [
    PKG_CHECK_MODULES([SYSTEMD], [libsystemd-login >= 206], [], [
      ... fallback code goes here ...
    ])
  ])

I'd say we should enable those compat libs until all offenders are fixed. There's no point doing upstream's work when the compat is still supported.

I fully agree :)
Comment 9 Pavel Volkov 2014-03-28 13:27:18 UTC
procps is now building with systemd-212.
Probably solved?
Comment 10 Alexander Tsoy 2014-05-14 08:39:57 UTC
Yes. This is no longer an issue, because systemd installs compatibility pkg-config files.

+  24 Jul 2014; Samuli Suominen <ssuominen@gentoo.org> procps-3.3.9-r1.ebuild:
+ Look for libsystemd.pc instead of libsystemd.pc and raise dependency from 206
+  to 209 accordingly wrt #501306
+

done with a simply s/libsystemd-logind/systemd/ to configure

i'll drop a quick mail to upstream about this as well, but i assume that's unrequired, due to the popularity of the packages involved
