ls -l /lib/firmware/rtlwifi/rtl8712u.bin -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 122328 Sep 23 17:38 /lib/firmware/rtlwifi/rtl8712u.bin yes, installed. As I remember, without sys-kernel/linux-firmware message looks like 'fail to load'.
