emerge --info

When I boot my system from power-off or reboot, the gnome 3 power applet appears as a broken battery icon (empty battery with a cross in the lower right corner), and then the icon disappears from Gnome 3 panel.

The state when I can see the broken battery icon is very brief, I can't make a screenshot, so I took a picture with my smartphone instead.

The states when there is no icon is captured.

I can put my laptop to sleep and wake it, and then the icon is back and works Ok. It's not working only after a fresh boot.

Logging out and back in also brings the power applet back.

power applet with broken battery
Comment 9 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2013-10-03 17:40:29 UTC
I also suffer this for a long time in a laptop:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=694758#c14

but upstream doesn't look to care at all :|

(as a side note, you can press Alt+F2+r to restart gnome-shell also)
Comment 10 Anton Gubarkov 2013-10-04 13:09:41 UTC
I upgraded to kernel 3.10.7-gentoo-r1 today. I did a simple "make oldconfig" using the same config file that is attached to this report https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=486868#attach_360038

I have Gnome power applet working every fresh boot now. It seems the problem is solved for me.
The mouse pointer also appears immediately as soon as I move the mouse. (I tested the BT logitech travel mouse, trackpoint and touchpad).
Comment 11 Joachim Bartosik (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2013-11-20 20:47:24 UTC
Pacho can you confirm if kernel update solves the problem (I can't reproduce it)?
Comment 12 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2013-11-22 20:35:33 UTC
Looks solved, indeed, not sure what update fixed it :/
