When I recently updated hotplug(20040401) I ran into problems. When I shutdown the pc it get stucked after stopping: input hotplugging stopping pci hotpluging stopping usb hotplugging and then nothing more, the system seems to freeze, I can swittch to other consoles, but can't use the keyboard to login or do anything else, the only console in which I can use the keyboard seems to be console 1, I can type text but nothing happens. The only way to stop the pc is by the power button. This reminds me at my windows BSOD, and that's something I don't expect in linux. found out that when I do /etc/init.d/hotplug stop before shutting down the pc , it shuts down normally. also with this version of hotplug my scannerprogram (kooka) doesn't respond (I have a lifetec usb scanner with gt68xx backend) I reverted to hotplug 20030805 and everything seems to work normal again. But what causes the problem with the new version?
what kernel are you using?
I use love-sources 2.6.5_rc2_r3

When your machine is hung, what does pressing the Alt-SysRq-T show? It should dump out all running tasks, and where they are currently at. That will help out in trying to figure out what is hanging here. That's real odd that you can stop it on your own too...not nice...
If this is still a problem, I suggest just not having the hotplug init script run at all at startup and shutdown. Make sure your usb controller modules are in the modules.autoload files and you should be just fine.
