Description Fabiano 2013-07-20 06:29:10 UTC
On upgrading calibre from version 0.9.37 to either 0.9.38 or 0.9.39, I got the same error during install phase:

RuntimeError: the sip module implements API v10.0 but the PyKDE4.kdeui module requires API v9.1

I had kde-base/pykde4-4.9.3 installed. After manually upgrading to kde-base/pykde4-4.10.4, calibre-0.9.39 installed sucessfully.

I guess if calibre depends on a newer version of pykde4, it should requires that version. No packages I had installed at the time required an upgrade of pykde4, even after a emerge world -uDN.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Try to emerge app-text/calibre-0.9.38 or 0.9.39 with an older version of pykde4, in my case I had installed kde-base/pykde4-4.9.3.
Actual Results:
Fails during install phase with a python sip exception traceback. The exeption error message was:
RuntimeError: the sip module implements API v10.0 but the PyKDE4.kdeui module requires API v9.1

Expected Results:
Application to emerge fine.

This is covered by sip upgrade notice.

I don't know if subslots could improve the situation here.
Comment 4 Rafał Mużyło 2013-07-20 16:44:20 UTC
...Ah, correction (I'm a bit out of touch): PyQt4 does handle it by sip subslots now. However the change isn't propagated down the tree, so it seems an explicit sip subslot dependency is needed here.

Just had this happen to me....I normally stay away from python stuff, but every six months or so I do need to upgrade kde and calibre....would be nice if calibre could depend on something that keeps pyqt and pykde in sync...
