Description Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2013-07-17 19:23:48 UTC
I don't know why, but running "df -h" after reboot now takes a long time to show anything, also shows to errors:
$ LC_ALL=C df -h
df: '/sys/fs/cgroup/openrc': No such file or directory
df: '/run/user/1001/gvfs': Transport endpoint is not connected

Do you have /etc/mtab symlinked to /proc/self/mounts? If not, you probably have stale entries there.

Yeah, that is the case. What should I do? Create a link (upstream suggests that but looks to cause other problems... even if I don't know if upstream knows that it causes problems) or edit /etc/mtab manually?

Thanks :)
Comment 3 Mike Gilbert gentoo-dev 2013-07-17 23:09:54 UTC
I just went with the symlink; I haven't noticed any problems, but I don't have any user or nfs mounts.
Comment 4 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2013-07-20 09:40:28 UTC
Yes, this is caused by missing symlink. Where is the doc about that supposed problems that appear with the symlink? I would suggest people to make the symlink (as opposite to current docs that looks to suggest it's optional and causes less problems)

My point of reference was our own wiki page.

I don't know where the upstream recommendation is documented.
Comment 6 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2013-07-21 06:53:28 UTC
Upstream recommendation is shown on every boot if you don't have the link

jul 14 01:12:18 belkin4 systemd[1]: /etc/mtab is not a symlink or not pointing to /proc/self/mounts. This is not supported anymore. Please make sure to replace this file by a symlink to avoid incorrect or misleading mount(8) output

Comment 8 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2013-10-18 17:13:07 UTC
I think we cannot do much more in systemd side -> we show warnings from ebuild, also the guide explains the issues...
