I already unmerged icedtea and remerged it—this helped with some other emerge issues around Java I don't properly remember, but it did not work for subversion. I had several Java-config-issues in the last months and got the impression that the java configuration management has become a bit fragile. This is not meant to be a reproval but just an observation / feedback to the maintainers.
I have tried it myself and it configures and compiles fine for me, so it seems like you have some issues with your local setup.
