For quite a while now, current xf86-video-{intel,ati} have been unusable when KMS is turned off.  I think it would be very sensible to finally turn on these default KMS options.

The vast majority of DRM_{I915,RADEON} users will need KMS, it would be nice if they didn't have to pass extra parameters to make it work.  The tiny minority who have some reason to turn off KMS will still be able to do it via a kernel parameter.

I think it is related with https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=458746 bug. I suggest it may be a matter of DRM_RADEON_KMS and DRM_RADEON_UMS but i am not sure nor have the knowledge. Would someone check it and may be report it to https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=472470 I cant find a working .config though

This is resolved in genkernel v3.4.52.
