might be related to portage update... exactly same situation with media-video/vlc-2.0.5. I am going to file the bug.

I'm seeing the same issue with building dev-libs/icu-51.1. Most likely this is something global (as mentioned possibly with portage itself).

When you first install =sys-devel/autoconf-2.13 and =sys-devel/automake-1.11.6, is the problem still there?
