Description Fabio Coatti 2013-04-08 09:30:54 UTC
Since I upgraded to kde 4.10.2, kmail refuses to start.
looking at strace output, the process seems stuck in polling fd=13:

234 poll([{fd=13, events=POLLIN}], 1, 4294967295) = 1 ([{fd=13, revents=POLLIN}])
1234 read(13, "\1\0\0\0\0\0\0\0", 16) = 8
1234 poll([{fd=13, events=POLLIN}], 1, 4294967295

That turns out to be this:

13 -> anon_inode:[eventfd]

a HUP singnal sent to kmail yelds to this result:
QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
unnamed app(1228): Communication problem with "kmail2" , it probably crashed.
Error message was: "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply" : " "Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)" "

Reproducible: Always

Could you try with a sane CFLAGS environment?
Comment 2 Fabio Coatti 2013-04-15 19:57:23 UTC
Already done, with "-march=native -mtune=native -O2 -pipe" that worked for every version of kmail so far.
Same result: two kmail process but nothing shows up

Please submit a bug at bugs.kde.org and link to it here; I fear there is not much that we can do.

The problem turned out to be a clash with glibc. I moved from glibc 2.16 to 2.17 and this broke in some way qtwebkit, used by many apps.
Here the gdb thread status:

recompiling qtwebkit solved the issue
