Description Joe Breuer 2013-02-14 08:09:27 UTC
Sometimes, the KDE "Run Command" dialog will hang, no longer accepting input, staying on-screen, and it's no longer possible to open it / open it another time.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open the "Run Command" window (I've bound it to Win+R)
2. Start typing a command (fairly quickly)
3. I'm used to (zsh) completion (Tab), so I regularly and very quickly type the wrong hotkeys for krunner; then realize my mistake and also quite quickly revert to how I believe the completion is operated in krunner (cursor keys).
Actual Results:
The "Run Command" dialog hangs, no longer accepting any input. It *may* hang in the middle of an animation; i.e. it looks as if the "point of hanging" is unrelated at least to the thread running the animations.

It is no longer possible to open it / another instance (using either Win+R or "Run Command" from one of KDEs menus).

The window is not "seen" by xwininfo/xkill.

Once or twice I tried to kill 'krunner' in this situation, but that appears to kill more desktop functionality; making the session completely useless (no more K menu / desktop menu etc.).

Expected Results:
The "Run Command" dialog allows to specify a command to run, including its completion/navigation capabilities.

When the program is run, the "Run Command" dialog should be removed from the screen.

The behavior of the stuck window appears similar to #457430.

Apart from the unlock dialog and the "Run Command" interface, I've not yet observed "hung windows".

I'm seeing this with (subjectively) increasing frequency for about 10-12 weeks now. So, I'd guess (at least) KDE 4.9.3 (installed December 2012) and 4.9.5 (current) are affected.

In case this is related: I'm running nvidia-drivers 304.64, on a GeForce GTX 580.

There's no way to regain "Run Command" functionality or get rid of the stuck window without logging out.
