Description Daniel Harper 2004-03-22 14:28:26 UTC
Portage is superb, but it lacks one thing that could make it brilliant. A progress bar that states how far it has got into the compile of a certain package. It's something that annoys me about portage, not knowing when my package will finish compiling.

Like on a download (wget), you get a little progress bar to state how far it has got in the download, with the percentage, speed and ETA next to it.

(======>  ) 75%   50kbps   ETA: 30s

Wouldn't it be great if compiling had this ability, imagine being able to actually know how far the compile is in, the the ETA.

(=========>         )   43%  compiling: kdebase-3.2.1  ETA: 20m5s

I hope you take this idea into reccomendation, it'd be excellent!

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.

This has been suggested so many times. It is not feasible to try and work out how far through a compile we are. There is just no sensible way to do it.

Suggest this is closed as WONTFIX
