Description Vladimir Romanov (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2013-01-28 06:56:02 UTC
From alsa guide: "Note: Since the 2005.0 release, Gentoo Linux uses 2.6 as the default kernel. Please check that your kernel is a 2.6 series kernel. This method will not work on a 2.4 kernel. "

I think, now Gentoo Linux uses 3.0 as default kernel? Not sure about Mips/Alpha/so on, but x86/amd64 do

Reproducible: Always
Comment 1 Vladimir Romanov (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2013-01-28 07:00:23 UTC
Sorry, 3.x as default kernel
Comment 2 Samuli Suominen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2013-01-28 07:16:30 UTC
Since sys-fs/udev is the default provider of virtual/udev and gets installed by default, then the default kernel is 2.6.39 at minimum
Starting with current stable, udev-197-r3

While this document[1] is a bit outdated, it still already says:

"udev is meant to be used in combination with a 2.6 and 3.x kernel"

http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/udev-guide.xml

So yeah, it could be changed to say "2.6 and 3.x kernel" like in the udev guide

I've updated the guide to just drop mentioning 2.6 (except at the beginning, but that's general introduction).
