Description marius.spix 2013-01-04 21:42:54 UTC
I am unable to emerge sys-fs/gvfs because of conflicts between different versions of sys-fs/udev.

See the forum thread here: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-7216124.html

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge gvfs with the following package.mask
>=sys-fs/udev-195
>=virtual/udev-195

Actual Results:
Output of emerge:

spixxi mari # emerge gvfs

It may be possible to solve this problem by using package.mask to
prevent one of those packages from being selected. However, it is also
possible that conflicting dependencies exist such that they are
impossible to satisfy simultaneously. If such a conflict exists in
the dependencies of two different packages, then those packages can
not be installed simultaneously.

For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man
page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.

# /etc/portage/package.mask:

NOTE: The --autounmask-keep-masks option will prevent emerge
from creating package.unmask or ** keyword changes.

Clean up a few things first:
- update sys-apps/openrc: if it's really <0.9.9, it's significantly out of date
- set gudev on virtual/udev
- sys-fs/udisks-2.0.1 should be enough

I masked >=sys-fs/udisks-2.0.1 and could emerge sys-fs/udisks-1.0.4-r2 succesfully.

ok I try sys-fs/udisks-1.0.4-r2 now - and it works

Emerging gvfs, however, still doesn't work

It may be possible to solve this problem by using package.mask to
prevent one of those packages from being selected. However, it is also
possible that conflicting dependencies exist such that they are
impossible to satisfy simultaneously. If such a conflict exists in
the dependencies of two different packages, then those packages can
not be installed simultaneously.

For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man
page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.

The following mask changes are necessary to proceed:
#required by virtual/udev-196, required by sys-fs/udisks-2.0.90, required by gnome-base/gvfs-1.12.3-r1[udisks], required by gvfs (argument)
# /etc/portage/package.mask:
=sys-fs/udev-196-r1
#required by gnome-base/gvfs-1.12.3-r1[udisks], required by gvfs (argument)
# /etc/portage/package.mask:
=sys-fs/udisks-2.0.90
#required by sys-power/upower-0.9.18, required by lxde-base/lxsession-0.4.6.1[udev], required by lxde-base/lxsession-edit-0.2.0, required by lxde-base/lxde-meta-0.5.5-r2, required by @selected, required by @world (argument)
# /etc/portage/package.mask:
=virtual/udev-196

NOTE: The --autounmask-keep-masks option will prevent emerge
from creating package.unmask or ** keyword changes.

Use --autounmask-write to write changes to config files (honoring CONFIG_PROTECT).

But my problem is solved. CD-ROMs can be automounted by non-root users now.

Maybe I don't need gvfs ;)

The line about udisks meant "you need just udisks-2.0.1, not 2.0.90", not how you've understood it.

Yes, but udisks-2.0.1 does not work for me. Therefore I use the older 1.0.4-r2.
