emerge --info

alsasound on boot is displaying this message:

alsactl: set_control:1464: Cannot write control '3:3:0:Playback Channel Map:0' : File descriptor in bad state

workaround to fix sound after login:

alsamixer, hit F6, choose soundcard, raise the volume for Speakers
or
alsactl init

I have tried to change /etc/init.d/alsasound to bypass this error, It is successful till the login page (I hear login sound)
After I login, the volume is really quiet and I barely hear a small noise when running music for example.
I am supposed each time I login to do any of the above workarounds.

Same here without pulseaudio and following ALSA versions:
$ equery list 'alsa*'
 * Searching for alsa* ...
[IP-] [  ] media-libs/alsa-lib-1.0.25-r1:0
[IP-] [  ] media-sound/alsa-headers-1.0.25:0
[IP-] [  ] media-sound/alsa-utils-1.0.25-r1:0.9

Happens with gentoo-sources-3.7.1 and 3.7.2. Haven't tested with 3.7.0. Hardware is as follows:

Hello.I do have 2 boxes.Both doesn't have sound at all.At one i have the same output.I am pretty sure is something i've emerged lately. Definitely isn't a kernel matter cause i have gentoo-sources-3.7.1 and pf-sources-3.6.8.
Comment 3 mrsteven 2013-01-21 23:02:59 UTC
I guess this should be fixed with Kernel 3.7.4, see the last entry in the corresponding changelog: http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v3.0/ChangeLog-3.7.4

I will check as soon as I install 3.7.4.

Indeed, the message is gone with sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-3.7.4.
