Description Maxim Kammerer 2012-12-09 01:53:23 UTC
18 Nov 2012; Pacho Ramos <pacho@gentoo.org> -b43-firmware-3.130.20.0.ebuild,
  -b43-firmware-4.150.10.5.ebuild, -b43-firmware-4.174.64.19.ebuild,
  -b43-firmware-4.80.53.0.ebuild, metadata.xml:
Drop mobile herd as talked in gentoo-dev ML, remove old.

net-wireless/b43-firmware-3.130.20.0:b43legacy was not an old version of net-wireless/b43-firmware-5.100.138:b43!

-----
b43legacy is a driver for 802.11b devices from Broadcom (BCM4301 and BCM4303) and early model 802.11g chips (BCM4306 Ver. 2) used in the Linksys WPC54G V1 PCMCIA devices.

Newer 802.11g and 802.11a devices need b43.

It is safe to include both b43 and b43legacy as the underlying glue layer will automatically load the correct version for your device.

This driver uses V3 firmware, which must be installed separately using b43-fwcutter.

-----

Please restore net-wireless/b43-firmware:b43legacy.
Comment 1 Maxim Kammerer 2012-12-09 02:05:13 UTC
Also, no need to restore b43-firmware-4 (-4 and -5 belong to CONFIG_B43, and -5 has all the files that -4 has).

Pacho, why was this purged?

+ +b43legacy-firmware-3.130.20.0.ebuild, +metadata.xml:
+ reintroduce b43legacy-firmware as a new package to prevent it from being
+ confused with b43-firmware or accidently cleaned

I have reintroduced b43legacy-firmware as net-wireless/b43legacy-firmware to prevent confusion and issues such as this.

I'll grep the tree to make sure I adjust any needed dependencies, please feel free to point out anything you know of.

Thanks! I think it's a good solution. All other slotting in firmware packages is used to distinguish between different kernels, not different devices.

Didn't find anything with grepping.

Probably was an error, I usually check for different slots when cleaning... but looks like I missed this :S

Sorry

No problem, just so we are clear I was trying to make sure you didn't know something I didn't (such as a licensing issue). Thanks
