Description Tomasz Golinski 2012-12-06 22:07:17 UTC
After last batch of xorg updates (to x11-base/xorg-server-1.13.0-r1) I get the following problem on two amd64 machines: during startup, when openrc reaches xdm, the process hangs for half a minute, spills a segfault

startDM.sh[19762]: segfault at 7fff1000dff8 ip 000000000043ac99 sp 00007fff1000e000 error 6 in bash[400000+b0000]

and then either continues starting selected xdm, or just stays on console. In any case, I can restart xdm manually without the problem.

Both systems have sys-apps/openrc-0.11.6, x11-apps/xinit-1.3.2, app-shells/bash-4.2_p37 and x11-base/xorg-server-1.13.0-r1 (all stable). One uses x11-drivers/ati-drivers-12.11_beta with x11-misc/slim-1.3.4-r1. The other uses x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-304.64 with kde-base/kdm-4.9.3:4.

Here's emerge --info from one of them (nvidia&kdm box):

Comment 1 Tomasz Golinski 2012-12-08 14:46:48 UTC
It turns out that the problem was caused by app-shells/autojump-21.1.0 (previous version autojump-20.9.ebuild didn't cause that problem).

It may be related to the fact that many scripts produce additional error msg with autojump-21:

bash: autojump_add_to_database: command not found
Comment 2 jens 2013-01-25 08:51:42 UTC
I can confirm both, the problem and the proposed solution.
Removing autojump (I didn't try the older version) solved the segfault in startDm during boot.

Michael, you seem to maintain a long list of packages because you wanted to "salvage" them but don't care about them so much.

This bug is a *huge* problem and has been reported over three months ago and you haven't even commented on it...
Comment 5 Tomasz Golinski 2013-03-01 13:27:41 UTC
This bug is still present in the current autojump-21.3.0. I would suggest hard-masking it, since that bug is really critical and non-obvious. At least there should be an explicit warning in ebuild about possible problem.
Comment 6 Kamil Kuduk 2013-03-30 19:16:01 UTC
It's just because of stupid:

/etc/profile.d/autojump.sh:
# check global install
elif [ -s /etc/profile.d/autojump.${shell} ]; then
        source /etc/profile.d/autojump.${shell}

when sourced from /etc/inid.d/xdm shell is "sh", so it causes infinite recursion

Tested, works for me.
