~ # eclean-pkg
 * Building file list for packages cleaning...
!!! Error accessing PKGDIR.

!!! (Check your /etc/make.conf and environment).

!!! Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/usr/portage/packages'

( Indeed I don't have /usr/portage/packages so the error is correct)

It would be nice to point to /etc/make.conf and/or /etc/portage/make.conf (maybe based on what it's present?). New users may get confused and move /etc/portage/make.conf back to /etc/make.conf.

yeah, that hasn't had any updates since the make.conf move. To be honest I didn't think of eclean needing that update. :(

hmm, looking at that code, make.conf is not actually used. It is just in the PKGDIR and DISTDIR error messages. It seems a waste of checking for existence of one, or the other, or both (since both are possible and legit). Just to print it in the error message.

I think in this case, just updating it to /etc/portage/make.conf would be enough.

Comments??? before I push the change.

I've just been changing references from /etc/make.conf to just make.conf. Most people are going to know which one they are using.
