No. The hints are new in desktop-file-utils-0.21 and we already have a portage patch in git to ignore them: http://git.overlays.gentoo.org/gitweb/?p=proj/portage.git;a=commit;h=ad24e372f5059dc1d6688e0fd01fb4fdb38f2908 The ebuild can set QA_DESKTOP_FILE=".*" to suppress all desktop warnings with current stable portage.
This seems fixed in portage 2.1.11.31.

These 'hint' messages are not validation failures, and will not be shown in the next version of portage. If you disagree with the choice of categories, please file a bug upstream.
