If you open a shell/terminal in X and open nano or top as root (important!), then close the shell w/o exiting nano or top prior, nano/top still stays in mem and goes to 100% CPU.

I am no expert on this, but as both apps show this behaviour and I think they both depend on ncurses, I rather think it is ncurses fault.
