Description Clemente Aguiar 2012-10-26 08:40:27 UTC
After an upgrade of glibc from v. 2.15-r2 to 2.15-r3, net-misc/ntp is not working as before.

When I query locally ntp I got the following result:

 $ ntpq -p
     remote refid st t when poll reach delay offset jitter
==============================================================================
 LOCAL(0)        .LOCL.          10 l  24d   64    0    0.000    0.000   0.000
+dns1.madeiratec 94.23.252.191    3 u   14 1024  377    0.303    1.676   0.223
*dns2.madeiratec 46.19.35.135     3 u  505 1024  377    0.159   -2.862   0.433

I then upgraded glibc:

$ sudo emerge -pv glibc

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild     U  ] sys-libs/glibc-2.15-r3 [2.15-r2] USE="gd hardened -debug (-multilib) -profile (-selinux) -vanilla" 117 kB

Total: 1 package (1 upgrade), Size of downloads: 117 kB

After the upgrade the ntp server stopped responding:

$ ntpq -p
tainha.madeiratecnopolo.pt: timed out, nothing received
***Request timed out

I have had the same problem happen on several machines: AMD64, AMD64 hardened as well as x86 hardened, which I am using for the report.

Reproducible: Always

The ntp package is:

$ emerge -pv ntp

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild   R    ] net-misc/ntp-4.2.6_p5-r1  USE="caps ipv6 ssl -debug -openntpd -parse-clocks -samba (-selinux) -snmp -vim-syntax -zeroconf" 0 kB

Total: 1 package (1 reinstall), Size of downloads: 0 kB

The ntp configuration file:

$ cat /etc/ntp.conf

server 127.127.1.0 # local clock (LCL)
fudge 127.127.1.0 stratum 10 # LCL is unsynchronized

this still an issue with latest stable versions ?
Comment 2 Clemente Aguiar 2015-04-26 12:47:45 UTC
I have tested and as far I can see its not a problem anymore.
