Description aaron.miller04 2012-10-15 19:55:37 UTC
When I suspend my laptop to RAM and then unsuspend it, occasionally I will get this kernel panic warning about a "recursive fault."

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. suspend laptop to RAM (with charger plugged in?)
2. unsuspend (on battery power?)

Have you been able to reproduce this behavior on 3.5 (or if you are running 9999 3.6)?

I have not tried 3.5 or 3.6. Do you think it would help?

I think it's strange that I added "=sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-3.5.0 ~amd64" to /etc/portage/package.accept_keywords as described in your guide ( http://blog.mthode.org/gentoo-hardened-zfs-rootfs-with-dm-cryptluks/ ), but I ended up installing 3.4. I have no idea why...

Is there a way to redo this with the 3.5 sources? Are they considered stable?
Comment 6 Matthew Thode ( prometheanfire ) archtester Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev Security 2012-10-16 21:03:32 UTC
That's because gentoo sources 3.5.0 was removed for more updated versions of 3.5 (3.5.6 is current newest). I consider the most current kernel the most stable, but that's not for everyone...

It may help, dunno :D
Comment 7 Richard Yao (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-10-17 01:03:13 UTC
You can probably apply that patch against any 3.5.x kernel, although I recommend generating it yourself by running the following with unpatched kernel sources:

env EXTRA_ECONF='--enable-linux-builtin' ebuild /usr/portage/zfs/sys-kernel/spl/spl-0.6.0_rc11.ebuild clean configure
cd /var/tmp/portage/sys-kernel/spl-0.6.0_rc11/work/spl-0.6.0_rc11
./copy-builtin /usr/src/linux

env EXTRA_ECONF='--with-spl=/usr/src/linux --enable-linux-builtin' ebuild /usr/portage/sys-fs/zfs-kmod/zfs-kmod-0.6.0_rc11.ebuild clean configure
cd /var/tmp/portage/sys-fs/zfs-kmod-0.6.0_rc11/work/zfs-kmod-0.6.0_rc11
./copy-builtin /usr/src/linux

So far, this does not appear to be related to ZFS, although it would be best to try patching the latest sources in this manner.

I'm going to have to work on these in a couple days, because I really need a working system right now.
