Both 2.20.7 and 2.20.8 of x11-drivers/xf86-video-intel exhibit strange behavior that did not exist in 2.20.6 and earlier. 1) In an unfocused xterm window, where the block cursor is an empty rectangle, the lower right pixel is missing. 2) In Chromium, moving the mouse in a tab causes strange, blocky flickering of parts of the text in that tab. And is there also display corruption in 2.20.9? For both sna and uxa? If the problem is still present in 2.20.9 with sna, then it would be good if you report this upstream at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/ with screenshots and, if possible, bisected.
Please provide your Xorg.0.log. Does it happens with SNA or UXA? Please test both (X log tells which is in use, UXA by default if both are built). Try testing 2.20.9 (or 9999 for x11 overlay), it should be bumped shortly, but it is also trivial to bump it locally (renaming ebuild should suffice). Additional info might be useful: $ emerge --info mesa xorg-server xf86-video-intel
Created attachment 325426 [details] Xorg.0.log from 2.20.9 Note that SNA is used here for version 2.20.9 (see previous comment asking about this). In 2.20.6, which does not show the bug, UXA was used, according to the log.

(In reply to comment #1) > And is there also display corruption in 2.20.9? It appears that the trouble may be caused by a switch from UXA (appears to be default with 2.20.6) to SNA (default with later versions, including 2.20.9?). I tried 2.20.9 - same issue. I've attached a screen shot of the xterm symptom. Is UXA going away? Does it make sense that default switched to SNA lately?
I see that the use of UXA has been removed by default by the addition of the "uxa" USE flags in versions after 2.20.6. Adding uxa back when installing 2.20.9 fixes the issue, so it must be purely an SNA issue.
I have submitted upstream bug: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=55484
UXA is not going away immediately, but SNA is so much faster tough newer and thus less tested. SNA use was set to default to give it extra exposure and testing, its bugs are fixed quickly if upstream is informed about them.
Upstream asked for a second separate bug report for the chromium issue. Using the xf86-video-intel-9999.ebuild from the X11 overlay and # EGIT_COMMIT="..." emerge xf86-video-intel you can do a manual bisect. Can you capture the chromium corruption in a screenshot or with ffmpeg -f x11grab?
Created attachment 325478 [details] Video screen capture showing the chromium tab flicker Here's a video capture of the chromium flicker issue (symptom #2 above). I opened a new bug upstream for this (as requested by upstream): https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=55500 Not sure bisecting is useful at this time, since I do not know when the problem began (or if it has always exisited). I had assumed both problem started in 2.20.7 because that's when SNA started being used (and I only realized this after bug discussion).
Ancient history. Upstream bug fixed, close this as RESOLVED FIXED.
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=55500 is not fixed
(In reply to Chí-Thanh Christopher Nguyễn from comment #12) > https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=55500 is not fixed I don't think there's value in having this bug open in our bugzilla. Only upstream is going to fix bugs like this.
