This problem has been fixed by this commit: http://git.gnome.org/browse/gucharmap/commit/?id=0ea65b812db2a88a5d039687dc89a46825a6f360
Comment 5 Juergen Rose 2012-11-15 11:14:42 UTC
I hit the same issue. Modifying the patch from http://git.gnome.org/browse/gucharmap/commit/?id=0ea65b812db2a88a5d039687dc89a46825a6f360 slightly I was able to emerge gucharmap-3.4.1.1 again with the attached patch and ebuild.

+ Fix docs building (#436710 by Andrew Savchenko and Juergen Rose), 'doc' USE
+ cannot be dropped as this is for building and installing it, otherwise docs
+ are completely dropped. Remove old.
