Description Jean-Claude Repetto 2012-09-29 08:12:09 UTC
The Joomla! Project is pleased to announce the immediate availability of Joomla 3.0.0. This is the next major release of the Joomla CMS in the Standard Term Support (STS) track. All 3.0 users will need to plan to update to the new versions available in the STS release cycle every six months until version 3.5 is released. These updates are expected to be simple and backwards compatible.

Reproducible: Always

Sorry for the late reply.
I don't think it is still meaning full to install joomla files with portage. Joomla gained upgrade ability in the administrator interface. Plus it is also the recommended (and easy) way to upgrade it, see
http://docs.joomla.org/Migrating_from_Joomla_1.5_to_Joomla_2.5
http://docs.joomla.org/Upgrading_from_Joomla_1.7_to_Joomla_2.5
for instance.

So the remaining interesting bits are the dependencies. We can either create a wiki page to list them or modify the ebuild to just check for the dep. and warn that the user has to install the files. But the latest option is quite unconventional.

Thus I'm in favour of removing the ebuild and put the interesting information on a wiki page or a web page.

Christian, what do you think ?

I totally agree, but I think having a dep-only ebuild would be sufficient.

Myself I do not agree on dropping evbuilds. I really think it is helpful to have an automated install procedure. The webapp-config stuff is fine. If upgrades through emerge and webapp-config should be prevented then fine with me. But please keep the ebuilds and raise them so that *NEW* installs really install a *CURRENT* version.

I want to easily install and test many CMS and eshops. WordPress is not in portage due to security issues, Joomla as I see will disappear soon, where is plone? I wonder why prestashop is not in portage, same about magento, quickcart, OXID eshop, OsCommerce, Ubercart ... As I said, I want to easily install the stuff and play with it. Why do you want to complicate our lives with the need for some manual install procedures? Aren't there already too many on the internet?
