I expected this to be fixed up-line for some time now, however it doesn't appear to be happening. XRandR allows for setting a larger virtual resolution than a physical monitor is capable of and then running the mouse pointer to the edge of the physical display should trigger panning into the section of the frame buffer that is not visible in order to make it visible. This has not worked in the server for some time now. There is a patch at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39949 that I would like to see integrated into new ebuilds until the fix is official. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. physical screen is 1440x900 2. /usr/bin/xrandr --output eDP1 --panning 1920x1200 3. the WM recognizes the new resolution, however panning does not function
Can I get an update on whether this issue will be addressed at some point?
Upstream has to move first. When the patch has been committed upstream, we can look into backporting it to xorg-server in portage.
Fixed in xorg-server-1.20.
