After the upgrade of qt4 to 4.8.3 the gtk-engines-qtcurve gtk2 theme does not work any more, instead all gtk2 apps fall back to using the extremely ugly default gtk2 theme. Downgrading all qt stuff to 4.8.2 (a difficult task because of all of the interlocking dependencies) allows gtk-engines-qtcurve to work again.

The most likely reason for the problem is the fix for bug 388551 - most likely it's not as neutral as it was supposed to be.
Comment 2 Ben de Groot (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-09-16 03:28:12 UTC
Does it work after an env-update and re-login?
Comment 3 Jouni Rinne 2012-09-16 06:33:32 UTC
After the original update to 4.8.3 I closed down the computer for the night. In the morning the gtk theme was gone, nothing except downgrade seemed to fix it.
Comment 4 Ben de Groot (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-09-16 07:05:26 UTC
Apparently the env.d file is broken, see bug 435054, so an upgrade to qt-gui-4.8.3-r1 should fix this.
