Description Craig Bradney 2004-03-01 17:38:54 UTC
emerge -u ncurses and you get nano scrolling strangely in half of the window given to it, eg konsole.
Reported on forums at:
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=143586&highlight=ncurses

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.emerge ncurses to 5.4
2.run nano, even reemerge it, and its scrolling will not work properly
3.emerge 5.3-r5 again and scrolling works.

The exact same problem and resolution on my box. (go back to old version for fix)

I'm getting the same with Gnome-Terminal (2.4.x) and Irssi
Comment 9 Olivier Mondoloni 2004-03-02 04:07:20 UTC
Thank you for reporting this bug. I have the same problem for nano and the same solution. Revert to ncurses-5.3-r5.

same problem in italian forum thread: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=143667

gnome-terminal and nano, i reverted to 5.3-r5 too
Comment 11 José Romildo Malaquias 2004-03-02 06:11:07 UTC
I am having this scroll problem with gnome-terminal running mutt and irssi.
Comment 12 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2004-03-02 06:18:26 UTC
i talked to spyderous last nite about this and it seems that the common element here is people using consoles with TERM=Xterm

he tried out Eterm and didnt have the problem (Eterm is what i have always used and thus never had this problem)
Comment 13 Martin Schlemmer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-03-02 09:25:02 UTC
Did you update the terminfo files (in /etc/terminfo/). Can you try to restart
X ?
Comment 14 Craig Bradney 2004-03-02 09:36:11 UTC
yes.. i -5 replaced them with etc-update and restarted X before submitting the bug.
Comment 15 razamatan 2004-03-02 09:59:27 UTC
i get this behavior, too (under gnome-terminal only).... if you export TERM=xterm-color or even TERM=rxvt, things go back to normal...

the standard linux console (TERM=linux) works fine...

I think this is a problem with /etc/terminfo/x/xterm .... what's the diff between the 5.3 and 5.4 version of it?

Comment 19 razamatan 2004-03-02 13:46:13 UTC
that's better... just replaced the 5.4 version of /etc/terminfo/x/xterm with the 5.3 version. things are happy now.
Comment 20 Priit Laes (IRC: plaes) 2004-03-03 04:17:44 UTC
Irssi is broken with 5.4 and with gnome-terminal
Comment 21 Martin Schlemmer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-03-03 10:30:55 UTC
Please try -r1 which should revert to 5.3 behaviour ...
Comment 22 Craig Bradney 2004-03-03 14:28:30 UTC
With -r1, nano seems fine now. Thanks heaps! Hopefully those with other apps confirm.
Comment 23 César Fernández 2004-03-04 05:50:36 UTC
No problem now with nano and 5.4-r1.
Comment 24 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2004-03-04 09:53:04 UTC
5.4-r1 should take care of this then
