Description Dustin C. Hatch 2012-08-17 23:12:50 UTC
The built-with-use dependency logic for dev-python/ipython-0.13 doesn't seem quite right. My first attempt at emerging ipython resulted in this common USE-required message:

The following USE changes are necessary to proceed:
#required by dev-python/ipython-0.13, required by ipython (argument)
>=dev-lang/python-3.2.3-r1 sqlite

Use --autounmask-write to write changes to config files (honoring CONFIG_PROTECT).

After making the appropriate change in /etc/portage/package.use/ipython, I ran emerge -av ipython again, and dependency calculation was successful. Indeed, the emerge proceeded to build and install all of the necessary packages, however, it stopped before emerging ipython with the following error:

 * Please rebuild dev-lang/python:2.7 with the following USE flags enabled: readline sqlite
 * ERROR: dev-python/ipython-0.13 failed (setup phase):
 * Please rebuild dev-lang/python:2.7 with the following USE flags enabled: readline sqlite
 *
 * Call stack:
 *       ebuild.sh, line   85:  Called pkg_setup
 *       ebuild.sh, line  319:  Called python_pkg_setup
 *   python.eclass, line  470:  Called python_execute_function '-q' 'python_pkg_setup_check_USE_flags'
 *   python.eclass, line 1107:  Called python_pkg_setup_check_USE_flags
 *   python.eclass, line  453:  Called die
 * The specific snippet of code:
 * die "Please rebuild ${python_atom} with the following USE flags enabled: ${PYTHON_USE_WITH}"
 *
 * If you need support, post the output of `emerge --info '=dev-python/ipython-0.13'`,
 * the complete build log and the output of `emerge -pqv '=dev-python/ipython-0.13'`.
 * The complete build log is located at '/var/tmp/portage/dev-python/ipython-0.13/temp/build.log'.
 * The ebuild environment file is located at '/var/tmp/portage/dev-python/ipython-0.13/temp/die.env'.
 * Working directory: '/var/tmp/portage/dev-python/ipython-0.13'
 * S: '/var/tmp/portage/dev-python/ipython-0.13/work/ipython-0.13'

Okay, no big deal, I can add readline to my USE flags for Python, but why wasn't this listed at the beginning?

Reproducible: Always

Comment 1 Jeroen Roovers (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-08-18 15:19:13 UTC
PYTHON_USE_WITH="readline sqlite"
Comment 2 Mike Gilbert gentoo-dev 2012-08-18 22:14:28 UTC
We would need to migrate to a solution like PYTHON_TARGETS to properly express the dependency.
Comment 3 Mike Gilbert gentoo-dev 2013-05-07 16:11:29 UTC
Should be fixed in >=dev-python/ipython-0.13.1-r1.
