This plugin for networkmanager doesn't function without the gnome use flag. Perhaps defaulting this use flag to on or removing the choice? To verify: 1. Install networkmanager-openvpn without the gnome use flag 2. Try to create an openvpn configuration in nm-applet 3. No option is present for openvpn configurations Once enabling the gnome use flag and rebuilding networkmanager-openvpn the option to create an openvpn VPN configuration finally exists.
You are right. I've renamed the USE flag from "gnome" to "gtk" to indicate that non-gnome desktop users probably want it enabled too. > 14 Aug 2012; Alexandre Rostovtsev <tetromino@gentoo.org> > networkmanager-openvpn-0.8-r1.ebuild, networkmanager-openvpn-0.8.2-r1.ebuild, > networkmanager-openvpn-0.9.0.ebuild, networkmanager-openvpn-0.9.2.0.ebuild, > networkmanager-openvpn-0.9.4.0.ebuild: > Renamed 'gnome' USE flag to 'gtk', since non-gnome users probably want it too > (bug #427406, thanks to Alex Brandt).
