Description sphakka 2012-07-19 15:07:32 UTC
Since SM-2.10, I can't install any more extra dictionaries via the addons interface: it just goes through but, after restarting, no further dictionary option is proposed. See my upstream report <>.

This is how I compiled it:

[ebuild R ~] www-client/seamonkey-2.11 USE="alsa crypt ipc libnotify startup-notification webm -chatzilla -custom-cflags -custom-optimization -dbus -debug -jit -roaming -system-sqlite -wifi" LINGUAS="-be -ca -cs -de -en_GB -es_AR -es_ES -fi -fr -gl -hu -it -ja -lt -nb_NO -nl -pl -pt_PT -ru -sk -sv_SE -tr -uk -zh_CN -zh_TW" 0 kB

What's weird is that, if hunspell is installed (which also installs myspell-en), EN-based dictionary are always available. If I uninstall myspell-en, those options disappears from SM as well. However, any other myspell-* dictionary is ignored by SM. Maybe that's because no linguas are set for SM...

This is how hunspell is installed:

[ebuild R ] app-text/hunspell-1.3.2-r3 USE="ncurses nls readline -static-libs" LINGUAS="en fr it -af -bg -ca -cs -cy -da -de -el -eo -es -et -fo -ga -gl -he -hr -hu -ia -id -ku -lt -lv -mk -ms -nb -nl -nn -pl -pt -ro -ru -sk -sl -sq -sv -sw -tn -uk -zu"

I see two problems here:
1) there's an implicit SM's dependency on hunspell which is not exposed

  # equery g seamonkey-2.11 | grep -i 'spell\|dict'
  [ 1] app-text/hunspell-1.3.2-r3

2) there's possibly a conflict with myspell-* stuff and SM addons. This point is left to be investigated upstream...

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
0. Right click, enable 'Check Spelling'
1. Right click, 'Languages' -> 'Download More Dictionaries...'
2. Install a dictionary
3. Restart
4. Freshly installed dictionary not available

Comment 1 sphakka 2012-07-20 10:01:01 UTC
myspell is the possible culprit (Bug #427288). Indeed, putting some private FF's dic/aff files in /usr/share/hunspell solves the issue.
Comment 2 Lars Wendler (Polynomial-C) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-07-26 04:51:53 UTC
So now that bug #427288 turned out to be invalid, what about this bug here?
Comment 3 sphakka 2012-07-26 07:50:15 UTC
I think that point 1. in my original post still holds, somewhat... Indeed, even with SM built against hunspell, addon dictionaries can be installed but don't show up in the Languages menu. IMO, it would be beneficial to have an explicit USE='spell' wich should also trigger a postinst warning message saying

"You built SM with system spell support, please be aware that you won't be able to install/use other dictionaries from SM's addons interface"

Anyway, until this is not clarified upstream (comment #9 at <> and following replies), I'd keep this bug on hold, or close it and open a new one...

You can now use either system dictionaries as default or you can clear the value of spellchecker.dictionary_path in about:config
