Description Timo Rothenpieler 2012-06-24 17:16:51 UTC
With baselayout-2.1, /var/run is a symlink to /run, which is a tmpfs, which is gone after a reboot.
In the openfire init script, start-stop-daemon is told to write a pidfile to /var/run/jabber/openfire.pid, which fails on a fresh tmpfs, as there is no jabber subdirectory.
So, after every reboot, openfire does not come up.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Have baselayout-2.1 installed
2. Have openfire installed and set up to start automatically
3. Reboot
Actual Results:
Openfire is in state crashed, as start-stop-daemon failed to write a pidfile.

Expected Results:
Up and running Openfire.

Nice catch! Reproduced here as well. Pushed as:

Thanks for the detailed report, Timo!
