Deigo, I'm not able to reproduce this. The only glaring difference between our systems is I'm using gcc-4.5.4 and you have gcc-4.7.1 but this looks like a linker issue.
Comment 2 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-10-15 23:09:37 UTC
Forced --as-needed. If you can't reproduce it means it's not supporting --as-needed either.

You cannot pass libraries _before_ the objects that use them, they should come _after_.

$CC $CFLAGS $LDFLAGS $OBJECTFILES $LIBS

You're right, I'm not supporting --as-needed, but I assumed I was. Here's why: I downloaded the latest stage3-amd64-20121013.tar.bz2. I then unpacked and immediately emerge-ed rsbac-admin. No problems. With your comment, I re-examined and found this:

   echo "int main() { ; return 0 ; }" >> test.c
   gcc -v -o test test.c

gives

   ... lots of stuff ...

 /usr/libexec/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.5.4/collect2 --eh-frame-hdr -m elf_x86_64 -dynamic-linker /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 -o test /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.5.4/../../../../lib64/crt1.o /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.5.4/../../../../lib64/crti.o /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.5.4/crtbegin.o -L/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.5.4 -L/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.5.4/../../../../lib64 -L/lib/../lib64 -L/usr/lib/../lib64 -L/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.5.4/../../../../x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/lib -L/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.5.4/../../.. /tmp/ccgGVYwp.o -lgcc --as-needed -lgcc_s --no-as-needed -lc -lgcc --as-needed -lgcc_s --no-as-needed /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.5.4/crtend.o /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.5.4/../../../../lib64/crtn.o

So the last option in the linker options is --no-as-needed. Is that right? Aren't we supposed to have --as-needed last by default?
Comment 4 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-10-16 00:38:19 UTC
No we set --as-needed on LDFLAGS, whereas the tinderbox has it forced by spec file.

From the log it's obvious that rsbac-admin is also ignoring whatever people have in their LDFLAGS (look for -Wl, entries), that's why it works out of the stage3: the LDFLAGS in profiles are ignored, so --as-needed is not enabled, so it doesn't fail.

Thanks Diego, mystery solved :) I've got some patching to do.
