MythTV (and its components/plugins) is fully supported in all major distributions (AFAIK), except Gentoo. For years now, the version in Gentoo was always lagging behind badly. Recently, all ebuilds for version 0.23.1 (which of course is pretty old) have been removed from the tree and some ebuilds for 0.24 showed up. BUT: Not for all plugins! I have currently installed: media-plugins/mythbrowser-0.23.1_p25396 media-plugins/mythgallery-0.23.1_p25396 media-plugins/mythgame-0.23.1_p25396 media-plugins/mythmusic-0.23.1_p25396 media-plugins/mythnews-0.23.1_p25396 media-plugins/mythvideo-0.23.1_p26407 media-plugins/mythweather-0.23.1_p25396 media-tv/mythtv-0.23.1_p27077 www-apps/mythweb-0.23.1_p25396:0.23.1_p25396 x11-themes/mythtv-themes-0.23_p24661 Available 0.24 ebuilds in portage: Only mythtv, mythvideo, mythweb Current version of MythTV is 0.25, BTW (recently released). I know, that ebuilds are available via a git repository/overlay from the MythTV developers, but that is not the same as a fully supported version in the tree. So, please at least provide *all* ebuilds for 0.24 officially. I cannot upgrade to 0.24 with only those 3 available. Removing all 0.23.1 ebuilds without providing all for 0.24 was not a good thing IMHO. Thanks!
My recommendation is to use the MythTV developer's overlay for the time being. I don't have enough time to mess with MythTV really and nor does Rich. And until we get other developers to step up to help maintain it, its where it is. There's already a ticket for updating all the components to 0.25 so I'm going to close it out. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 411547 ***
