Description ta2002 2012-05-06 09:28:30 UTC
Have several clients sync to a local portage tree every day.

After the recent upgrade of sys-libs/glibc update from 2.13-r4 to 2.14.1-r3, all attempted syncs fail with the following:

# SYNC=rsync://server/gentoo-portage/ emerge --sync
>>> Starting rsync with rsync://
>>> Checking server timestamp ...
@ERROR: invalid uid nobody
rsync error: error starting client-server protocol (code 5) at main.c(1516) [Receiver=3.0.9]
>>> Retrying...
!!! Exhausted addresses for server

Restarting rsyncd on the server did not help, but rebuilding it (against the new glibc) did.

Perhaps a warning could be added (via einfo) to glibc to suggest rebuilding rsync.

Probably should add my /etc/rsyncd.conf (pretty generic actually):

# /etc/rsyncd.conf

# Minimal configuration file for rsync daemon
# See rsync(1) and rsyncd.conf(5) man pages for help

# This line is required by the /etc/init.d/rsyncd script
pid file = /var/run/
use chroot = yes
read only = yes

# Simple example for enabling your own local rsync server
#path = /usr/portage
#comment = Gentoo Portage tree
#exclude = /distfiles /packages

hosts allow =
hosts deny  = *
uid = nobody
gid = nobody
max connections = 5
log file = /var/log/rsync.log
pid file = /var/run/
use chroot = yes

comment=Gentoo Linux Portage tree
exclude= /distfiles /packages /lost+found
