I ran across the same problem here, but going into /var/tmp/portage/net-print/cups/work and running make install, actually got everything installed without the error
So not too sure what is happening,of course actually doing this doesn't complete the install as far as the ebuild is concerned, so it will probably try to rebuild cups again, still I can --skipfirst to complete the update.

This is just a "me too".
I'm getting the same errors.
Comment 5 Jean-Francis Roy 2012-04-21 18:35:24 UTC
I have the exact same issue here.
Comment 6 Tanktalus 2012-04-21 21:17:33 UTC
I'm getting this on one amd64 box (Intel CPU), but not another amd64 box (real AMD).
Comment 7 Eckhard Jokisch 2012-04-22 08:28:51 UTC
me too on Intel amd64 laptop
Comment 8 Andreas K. Hüttel archtester gentoo-dev 2012-04-24 18:24:57 UTC
Fixed, thanks. Please sync in an hour.
