Trying to boot a kenrel newer than 2.6.2 final vanilla or mm-sources the initialization process hangs on trying to initialize either eth0 or eth1 devices. I reported that bug also at OSDL.org: [1]. If any more information is needed, please let me know, I'll give more with pleasure, just need to know which exactly. And I don't think it is an issue of mm-sources, rather vanilla-sources (here dev-sources) - I even tried downloading the original ones without latest bk's, and building them - same result. [1] http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2071 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. compile the kernel with the .config submitted (provided you've got compatible components, I guess) 2. boot the kernel (a specified one) 3. wait till it comes to the eth0/eth1 initialization Actual Results: Nothing happened but it hangs each time I try to boot it. Expected Results: Initialize the eth devices and boot. And it shouldn't hang. emerge info Portage 2.0.50-r1 (default-x86-1.4, gcc-3.3.2, glibc-2.3.3_pre20040207-r0, 2.6.2-rc2-mm1-n1) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.2-rc2-mm1-n1 i686 Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.20GHz Gentoo Base System version 1.4.3.13 Autoconf: sys-devel/autoconf-2.59 Automake: sys-devel/automake-1.8.2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86 ~x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-O3 -march=pentium4 -fprefetch-loop-arrays -funroll-loops -pipe" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" COMPILER="gcc3" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.1/share/config /usr/kde/3.2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/share/config /usr/share/texmf/dvipdfm/config/ /usr/share/texmf/dvips/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/platex/config/ /usr/share/texmf/xdvi/ /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-O3 -march=pentium4 -fprefetch-loop-arrays -funroll-loops -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs buildpkg ccache sandbox" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://ftp.uni-erlangen.de/pub/mirrors/gentoo http://linux.rz.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/download/gentoo-mirror/ http://mirrors.sec.informatik.tu-darmstadt.de/gentoo ftp://sunsite.informatik.rwth-aachen.de/pub/Linux/gentoo ftp://ftp.tu-clausthal.de/pub/linux/gentoo/ http://gentoo.oregonstate.edu http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.europe.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="X aalib alsa apache2 apm arts avi berkdb bonobo cdr crypt cups directfb dvd encode esd firebird flash foomaticdb gdbm gif gnome gnutls gphoto2 gpm gtk gtk2 gtkhtml imlib java jpeg kde libg++ libwww mad mikmod mmx motif mozilla moznocompose moznoirc moznomail mozxmlterm mpeg mysql nas ncurses nls nptl nvidia oggvorbis opengl oss pam pdflib perl php png python qt quicktime readline ruby samba scanner sdl slang spell sse ssl svga tcltk tcpd tetex tiff truetype x86 xchattext xml xml2 xmms xv zlib"
Created attachment 25412 [details] .config file
Created attachment 25433 [details] Kernel OOPS I believe it is due to hotplug. Trying to boot linux-2.6.3-rc2-love1 it displays a message (see attachment) right after "Initializing PCI devices". gentoo-dev-sources doesn't display any message, simply hangs.
Created attachment 25434 [details] the new .config This is the .config I use with love-sources-2.6.3_rc2-r1
Sorry for the delay. This bug was resolved. http://bugme.osdl.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2106#c7
