echangelog could be enhanced to check the content of GECOS/ECHANGELOG_USER against a (periodically downloaded or otherwise distributed or synchronised) fixed list of official Gentoo handles (nicknames).

Non-devs can use echangelog. So, how do you see a verification enhancement working with this in mind?

Are you really asking for a repoman enhancement if repo_name = gentoo?
