I use pam_ldap. At startup, dbus take a long time to start because it tries to fetch some infos from ldap server, that is inaccessible : net is not yet started. Should I suggest to make dbus dependent of net ?
So, what if the LDAP server is local? I don't think it's all black and white.
I think the best plan is to document that if you use any authentication modifications, you need to add rc_dbus_need="providers_of_auth" to /etc/rc.conf So in your case, you would add: rc_dbus_need="net" to /etc/rc.conf and it should work better.
Not a PAM problem: if you have non-trivial set ups you should play with the settings, as Doug said.
I actually works with the Doug's tip :)
