Description Adam Kowalik 2012-03-29 19:36:07 UTC
Hello.
I noticed some time ago that there aren't any packages for testing versions of zabbix (1.9+). I managed to recycle 1.8 ebuilds and make them work with 1.9 using simple version bump, but it isn't working for 2.0.0_rc2 anymore, so I'm kindly requesting one :)
Comment 1 Matthew Marlowe (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-04-05 15:23:24 UTC
The 1.9.x releases were designated alpha quality with no ability to upgrade to final 2.0 release by the Zabbix devs so there was a good reason to add them to tree directly.

I'm still getting final info on the rc candidates for 2.0....looks like we're now into solid beta testing now, but I'd like to find out how long to final version of 2.0 and if it will be possible for users to upgrade from rc2 to final.
Comment 2 Matthew Marlowe (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-04-09 06:01:19 UTC
spoke to zabbix devs, as of right now...there is no supported upgrade path to the final 2.0 - even for rc2.
My contact is going to see if this policy should be changed. When it is or if the final 2.0 comes out, I'll begin to push those releases to portage.

So i understand that You have ebuilds for 2.0.0_rc2 ? It would be great if You could upload them or add to some overlay or add them as hard masked - i think there would be more people like me - i need to play with it (even without having possibility to upgrade later) - to learn it and discover new features (at work we're going to replace our old nagios/cacti combo with something else, and need to check how zabbix will behave)...
Comment 4 Matthew Marlowe (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-04-10 05:48:54 UTC
I'll see if I can put out a masked/no keyword ebuild for the latest 2.0 release candidate within a week. I'll use the release to concurrently test out some changes I've wanted to make to the main ebuilds.
Comment 5 Matthew Marlowe (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-04-14 04:22:38 UTC
Zabbix will provide at least unofficial support, and possibly official, to support migration from rc3 (which will be released next week) towards the final 2.0 release, whenever it is available.

We'll have a tentative 2.0rc3 ebuild in tree hopefully by next weekend.
Comment 6 Matthew Marlowe (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-04-16 19:16:17 UTC
masked, no keyword rc2 ebuild is in tree for testing.

Zabbix has confirmed official support for upgrades from rc3.

Moderate changes to ebuild -- adding java use flag and opened up additional bugs for new dependencies.
Comment 7 Adam Kowalik 2012-04-18 06:25:40 UTC
Thnak You for adding this ebuild - I managed to compile and install 2.0.0_rc2 without any problems, but unfortunately don't have time to try if it runs OK - I'll try to do some testing till the end of this week.
Oh, I emerged it using +java and all dependencies were installed succesfully as well.

RC3 is in tree. It *should* work fine. The only areas I have really left to refine are the init script which likely does not need changes, and the config files which are supposed to be backwards compat but which we can match up more with upstreams.
Comment 9 Matthew Marlowe (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-06-20 19:11:14 UTC
2.0.0 has been in tree for over a month now, currently masked, but will be marking as testing shortly unless any major bugs show up to block.
Comment 10 Matthew Marlowe (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-07-02 15:25:02 UTC
2.0.1 added to tree, 2.0.x releases no longer package masked, released for testing. Marking bug resolved.
