Description André Terpstra 2012-03-23 06:02:55 UTC
After upgrading to sys-fs/udev-182 my system suddenly failed to boot normally.

Reproducible: Always

Expected Results:
The error warning was descriptive enough to find out its cause but a warning somewhere might be appropriate. For example in the eselect news message about udev-181 unmasking.
Comment 1 Samuli Suominen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-03-23 07:23:38 UTC
There has always been a warning for this in udev's ebuild. You just need to read it...

I disagree. It is not in the ebuild itself nor in the eselect warning, AFAIK. Looking through the changelog the DEVTPMFS dependency was added a few days ago as a critical dependency but then lowered in importance from a principal standpoint. This requires the warning IMHO.

Exactly as Samuli said, it obviously is:
$ cat /usr/portage/sys-fs/udev/udev-182.ebuild  | grep DEVTMPFS
CONFIG_CHECK="~BLK_DEV_BSG ~DEVTMPFS ~HOTPLUG ~INOTIFY_USER ~NET ~PROC_FS
