Description Anthoine Bourgeois 2012-03-21 21:08:03 UTC
On libgimpthumb.so link, gcc tells me that /usr/lib/libgobject-2.0.so.0 can't be read.

libtool: link: i686-pc-linux-gnu-gcc -O2 -march=amdfam10 -pipe -Wall -Wdeclaration-after-statement -Wmissing-prototypes -Wmissing-declarations -Winit-self -Wpointer-arith -Wold-style-definition -Wl,-O1 -o .libs/gimp-thumbnail-list gimp-thumbnail-list.o -Wl,--as-needed ./.libs/libgimpthumb-2.0.so -pthread
/usr/lib/gcc/i686-pc-linux-gnu/4.5.3/../../../../i686-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: gimp-thumbnail-list.o: undefined reference to symbol 'g_type_init'
/usr/lib/gcc/i686-pc-linux-gnu/4.5.3/../../../../i686-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: note: 'g_type_init' is defined in DSO /usr/lib/libgobject-2.0.so.0 so try adding it to the linker command line
/usr/lib/libgobject-2.0.so.0: could not read symbols: Invalid operation

Reproducible: Always

So far I fail to reproduce this error.

Please try with different versions of dev-libs/glib and media-gfx/gimp and report back.
Comment 3 Anthoine Bourgeois 2012-03-29 20:06:48 UTC
I try to emerge different gimp ebuild or glib without success.

I emerge gimp some times ago and it works but now when I run revdep-rebuild gimp failed then I suspect a change in my chaintool.
I change libtool (who is run by gnome2_src_prepare) to 2.4.2 or 2.2.10 version without success.

I don't understand why is said "try adding it to the linker command line" then "could not read symbols: Invalid operation". The lib has the -rwxr-xr-x permission.

Any Ideas ?

I guess a tiny patch for Gimp is needed.

This might be related to your problem:

Exactly my problem.
Comment 7 Sebastian Pipping gentoo-dev 2012-03-31 04:21:08 UTC
It seems that the patch does not apply to 2.6.11-r_6_ any more and that there is a patch in 2.6.11-r_6_ that does related changes (adding -lm). Could you try if 2.6.11-r_6_ or 2.6.12 compiles for you? If so, all we need to do is get a newer revision of the ebuild stabilized.
Comment 8 Anthoine Bourgeois 2012-04-01 17:11:07 UTC
Yes, 2.6.12 build well for me but not 2.6.11-r6.

2.6.12 has been marked stable by now, closing.
