Just a small suggestion, if you have time and interest to do it. Otherwise please close as WONTFIX. :) What about dropping the second "plugins"? It makes the full name of the package pretty long and doesn't include any further information. An example: media-plugins/gst-plugins-ogg -> media-plugins/gst-ogg The same pattern is used by vdr-plugins, which also don't have "plugins" in their PN.
It follows the upstream naming of the packages, but that's primarily gst-plugins-{base,good,ugly,bad}, so the rest just follows convention. Also, the category name "media-plugins/" is usually not used when referring to package names when passing it to emerge or so.
I admit that this looks redundant but renaming all plugins would take a crazy amount of time with CVS, would require portage package migration for little gain. In other words, the cost of doing this is too big for any modification to happen in the near future. Thanks for your report anyway.
