Mmesa-8.0, with egl flag enabled, puts libEGL.so.1 in /usr/lib64/opengl/xorg-x11/lib, and all the applications that depend on it (cairo, etc.) don't find it. I've to create a symlink to /usr/lib64 in order to the applications to work (revdep-rebuild doesn't find anything wrong). Reproducible: Always
This also happened to me. I'm running LXDE/Openbox and lxpanel failed start on reboot. Attempting to start it from xterm gave the libEGL.so.1 error. Terminator and most other application also failed to start. I also tried revdep-rebuild and it reported all was fine. I restored an image backup of the root partition to recover.
Same here. This can be bad for people using KDE who have the egl USE flag turned on since this breaks qt-gui and qt-opengl. I that case, all things KDE (including KDM) fail to start. Soft-link fixed the problem for me as well.
same issue here
This appears to only affect people using Nvidia graphics cards. The following will create a symbolic link: eselect opengl set xorg-x11 eselect opengl set nvidia
