Description Claudio Roberto França Pereira 2011-12-26 00:49:08 UTC
As per http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-898214-highlight-skype.html, skype isn't linked to the v4l2convert.so library. Is there any way to export the correct (32 or 64bit) LD_PRELOAD variable? Maybe using the /usr/lib symlink?

The fix works, and ldd on the skype binary doesn't show any v4l libraries:

$ cd /opt/skype

Comment 1 Claudio Roberto França Pereira 2011-12-26 00:49:30 UTC
Since the skype ebuild uses make_wrapper to generate /usr/bin/skype, it's harder to patch that to add the LD_PRELOAD export. I can't see how to fix this trivially.
Any thoughts?

1) Please post your output for `emerge --info net-im/skype' in a comment.
2) Test request: Please re-emerge with USE=qt-static and try again.

        libXdmcp.so.6 => /usr/lib32/libXdmcp.so.6 (0x43619000)

As you can see, no QtGui or QtCore.
The same behavior, no video from the webcam displayed. Forcing the fix (editing /usr/bin/skype by hand) made the video work again.

Maybe we can patch the /usr/bin/skype file AFTER the build/install? I'm new to ebuild editing/writing, so I don't know if this is feasable. Is there a post_install() function?

Correcting myself, skype is a binary package, so just exporting the lib32 version of v4l2convert.so is enough.

Also, I don't see v4l[2] being referenced anywhere on the binary also. Is that correct? It seems that v4l2convert.so is used to convert pixel formats, and prevent green screen effects, generated by v4l drivers. But skype simply doesn't show anything without this compatibility "layer".
