Description Vladimir 2011-12-02 11:51:14 UTC
app-office/libreoffice-3.5.0.0 lets me open only one document and edit it. When I try to open another one (even of other type - Calc spreadsheet, Writer document or Impress presentation), nothing happens.

Reproducible: Always
Comment 1 Derk W te Bokkel 2011-12-03 20:17:51 UTC
can confirm .. you can open multiple instances writer, calc, draw, impress together but only one saved document can be opened .. even though you can create several .. as long as they are not in the same "program" i.e a calc document and a writer document etc... once you have created and saved a document you can not open another .. except by closing the created and edited files ..
Comment 2 Derk W te Bokkel 2011-12-03 20:45:52 UTC
ancillary it also crashes when opening older *.doc documents
Comment 3 James 2011-12-04 01:45:54 UTC
This seems to have been reported upstream and is affecting more than just Gentoo users: http://www.mail-archive.com/libreoffice@lists.freedesktop.org/msg19369.html
Comment 4 Tomáš Chvátal (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-12-04 15:55:27 UTC
Fixed in main tree, now it is optional so unless you enable it you are safe and if you do it is your problem to pick up.

Please excuse me, but what is optional?
Comment 6 James 2011-12-05 00:57:57 UTC
Unless this is an effect of the problem with postgresql, Please Reopen this bug, the change to v 1.4 of the libreoffice 5 build has to do with postgresql, covered under bug 393037, to which Tomáš Chvátal wrote almost an identical closing statement, I may be wrong, but I believe he was on the wrong bug when he closed this one out.
Comment 7 Tomáš Chvátal (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-12-05 08:44:42 UTC
Nope this one is fixed. Just sync and see new gtk3 useflag.
Comment 9 Vladimir 2011-12-05 09:53:55 UTC
  Hello!

(In reply to comment #7)
> Nope this one is fixed. Just sync and see new gtk3 useflag.
Is it really because of GTK3?
I tried to start LibreOffice applications like this:
      SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gtk lowriter
and it started LO Writer with the GTK2 frontend, but the opening issue was still there.
Or am I talking about a different thing?

  Thanks.
    Vladimir
Comment 10 Tomáš Chvátal (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-12-05 10:00:29 UTC
Hmm, when I use gtk frontend I really can't reproduce this behaviour on gtk2 or kde frontends. With gtk3 I indeed can do so.

But on the other hand the file dialog was redone between 3.5.0.0 and 9999 version I use so that might be culprit.

I would say lets wait another 4 days for the beta1 release and see if it is really fixed.

I'm running kde, and I'm getting this behavior
I tried the SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gtk lowriter and get the same behavior.
Thanks,

Please try to close bugs only when they are actually solved. I get the same on KDE:

app-office/libreoffice-3.5.0.0 was built with the following:
USE="branding (consolekit) dbus graphite java jemalloc kde (multilib) mysql opengl (policykit) svg vba webdav xmlsec (-aqua) -binfilter -debug -eds -gnome -gstreamer -gtk -gtk3 (-kdeenablefinal) -nsplugin -odk -pdfimport -postgres -test"

The status claims there's a fix, what is it? If none, please reopen.

Even with gtk3 USE flag, the same problem.

@all:
the bug seems not to be fixed by the gtk3 quirk :(
after some research it will be fixed with beta1 release due today/tomorow, keeping this closed as it is not worth reopening for 1 days.

@silvio:
stop being idiot and opening the same bug again and again.

IT IS WORTH because thus we would avoid duplicate reports. The status is a complete lie and should be corrected immediately.

He only reopened his bug once, not "again and again". Stop using that language here whoever do you think you might be!

Changing resolution to wontfix to make everyone happy that the bug is closed with proper resolution.

Wontfix is added due to my comment #10.

For anyone interested here is my comment from the bug #393359 with specified list of patches that fixes the issue +-.

As I said on the previous bug if you would read it is fixed by rewritting of
the filedialog handling.
Which is done in 5 commits I didn't think is worth backport for 3 days as you
would have to rebuild the libreoffice again anyway.

If you are misusing bugzilla and wasting time of 3 more volunteers just because you feel special... He would not need to open new bug at all (suprisingly we do not sit at our computers and handle bugs all the time, also good thing is to read gentoo forums). Whoever I am? Good question, probably just guy that tries to make 3.5 lo build for everyone without much pain, if you don't like beta packages and identifying issues then stop using testing tree.

Dear Tomáš Chvátal I've just reopened the bug because I thought you made a mistake.

I do think you made a mistake even now, putting this bug "closed" (the proof is that now you put it as "wantfix").

The only way to keep the bug opened was to refuse the replication. So the bug stay at least "unconfirmed".

If you think I made a mistake, explain me how could I behave in that situation.

Thank you

> Changing resolution to wontfix to make everyone happy that the bug is closed

Absolutely wrong, it should say RESOLVED UPSTREAM if you really feel obliged to close it for who knows what (statistical?) reasons...

> If you are misusing bugzilla and wasting time of 3 more volunteers just because
> you feel special...
Again, a mistake. First of all, it is only you who feels so special. Secondly, the mere fact that you closed this bug waisted OUR and Gentoo developers' time (including yours). If you only had left it OPEN then nobody would have complained further, nor posted duplicate reports. How complicated can that be?

One more thing: beta-quality packages are MASKED as a general policy in Gentoo, unless they are tested thoroughly beforehand by packagers. IMO, this issue should have ruled out this version from the unmasked packages, really!
The existence of a package marked ~arch implies that the package is reasonably useable and it is either newer than 30 days or has had valid issues for the last 30 days.

Thanks anyway for your work. It's the conversation that was unpleasant.
