You can work around it by: emerge -1 icedtea-bin:6 jdk:1.6 && emerge -avNuD world
Assigning to portage. Short of masking the only free option there isn't much java can do. Note, both pkgcore and paludis have no issues installing icedtea without running into imaginary dependency cycles from a stage3 && emerge pkgcore paludis A fix would be much appreciated.
