Developer Stable and ~Recommened~ package Fdupes 1.40 has been removed from the portage tree and replaced with a Developer preview/unstable release 1.50_pre2. It is even named "pre2" yet it is marked as stable software in the Portage tree. My feelings are, if the ~Developer~ marks his software as unstable/preview/beta etc, then that is exactly what it is, and should not be changed as such because one person says they have tested it, so it should be "stable" in the portage tree. This is exactly why Gentoo has a ~keyword~ flag in Portage. If someone wants to use unstable/preview/beta software they are free to do so, but users who do not want to use such software should not be forced into using it. This goes totally against Gentoo philosophy. Quote from developer page: ~For Everybody The current version of fdupes is distributed as -->fdupes-1.40.tar.gz<--. No later version has been officially released. Users should get this version, as it's presumably the most reliable. Developers and beta testers should look at the versions below. For Beta Testers Preview releases of fdupes are provided here for testing purposes. Preview releases are mostly functional, but may contain serious bugs. Caution is advised when using any fdupes preview release. List of fdupes preview releases.~ Please replace 1.40 in the Portage tree. Thank You John
So did experience any problems with this version? I don't see a reason to work with 1.50. Other distributions also ship this version and consider it stable.
