dev-texlive/texlive-latexextra-2010-r2 includes a Windows Image Database file, probably the result of coping an entire directory, which are useless in a non-Windows system. The file installs to "/usr/share/texmf-dist/doc/latex/pdfwin/Thumbs.db" and should be removed. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install. Actual Results: Installs useless Windows Image Database file. Expected Results: Install without useless file. Cannot confirm that. Do you have the build log?
The Thumbs.db file (actually the entire subdirectory "pdfwin") only exist when USE="doc", which is probably why you cannot reproduce it. The build.log exceeds the 1000KB attachment limit. So I have posted it here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/46609105/texlive-latexextra-2010-r2-build.log
(In reply to comment #2) > The Thumbs.db file (actually the entire subdirectory "pdfwin") only exist when > USE="doc", which is probably why you cannot reproduce it. The abs-guide ebuilds do not have USE=doc. They do have USE=pdf, which is what I tested with and without, and which I found not to include or omit a file called Thumbs.db. > The build.log exceeds the 1000KB attachment limit. They do have USE=pdf, Whoops, mixed up two bug reports there. Anyway, texlive-latexextra ebuilds do not have USE=doc when the package name does not have "documentation" in it. And I checked and rebuilt this on two systems. > > The build.log exceeds the 1000KB attachment limit. Created attachment 291537 [details] build log with USE="doc"
please ask the author not to include that file or texlive upstream to drop it. author contact can be found in the header of: /usr/share/texmf-dist/tex/latex/pdfwin/pdfwin.sty and texlive's contact here: http://tug.org/texlive/lists.html we're just using texlive's pre-packaged texmf tree, so there isn't much we can do unless we want to do our own tex distribution and duplicate texlive's upstream amazing work :=)
