Chromium does not appear among the list of web browsers under 'preferred applications' in XFCE4. Does the .desktop file installed with chromium have a line like this? MimeType=x-scheme-handler/http;x-scheme-handler/https; If not, it definately should. This is mandatory since glib >= 2.28.

Could you please post the version number of chromium? 2. Also, what happens if you launch Chromium and set it as default browser from its interface? 3. Please also post output of "xdg-settings get default-web-browser" > Chromium also does not appear in the "Internet" menu in e16. This seems to be a different issue, please open a separate bug and post more details how you've installed e16 so we can reproduce your setup.

Will do. Probably later this week, also. Grepping my .bash_history, I did find that my installation of xfce4 occurred as an invocation of: sudo emerge xfce4-battery-plugin xfce4-battery-plugin xfce4-mount-plugin xfce4-sensors-plugin tango-icon-theme xfwm4-themes thunar-archive-plugin tumbler thunar-volman
Please provide all the requested info, then re-open the bug. Note that I was mostly interested in how you've installed Enlightenment, not XFCE (that's useful to know anyway).
Sorry about that. Will do when I have time. Been unexpectedly swamped these past few weeks, and entering the time of year when it doesn't get any better.
Reproduced on a new system. Fresh install. No enlightenment, just xfce4. Chromium's .desktop file reads the same. This is an entirely stable system, no unmasked packages. Setup sequence: * Install Gentoo * Install X * Install xfce4-base/xfce4-meta * Install www-client/chromium $ xdg-settings get default-web-browser firefox.desktop Which is strange, because I haven't installed Firefox. Following telling Chromium to make itself the default browser, XFCE4 successfully launches Chromium when I click "Web Browser" in the Applications menu. It also now appears in the list of browser under Preferred Applications. * www-client/chromium Latest version available: 15.0.874.121 Latest version installed: 15.0.874.121 Size of files: 147,587 kB Right, I was able to repro that scenario. I'm not sure what's the right fix there... does it work OOTB on any other distro? XFCE team, any ideas? I can fix the Chromium side if needed, but for now I'm not sure how to debug it.
Created attachment 293979 [details] google-chrome.desktop Attached is my google-chrome.desktop (self-made) that I put in ~/.local/share/xfce4/helpers/ to get google-chrome to show up in the list. I'm not quite sure what exactly was needed to get it there as I simply copied an existing helper .desktop file and changed it accordingly, but you can compare it to an existing one (I think chrome creates one if it thinks that it's not the default browser).
(In reply to comment #9) > Attached is my google-chrome.desktop (self-made) that I put in > ~/.local/share/xfce4/helpers/ to get google-chrome to show up in the list. Thank you, even getting the path in ~/ is helpful, as I didn't know where exactly those files are stored. However, it seems Firefox is not affected by this problem, i.e. you can install Firefox and XFCE somehow "knows" that Firefox is a web browser and displays it as a choice. Is that hardcoded into XFCE, or does Firefox ship with some magic bits in its .desktop file that Chromium doesn't have? Any ideas or docs/code I could read?
Submitted an upstream bug, I think I figured out how it works.
(In reply to comment #11) > Submitted an upstream bug, I think I figured out how it works. FYI, it's fixed upstream: http://git.xfce.org/xfce/exo/commit/?id=a8bd98bfda679b52b92615984ec3129b1b9469da And I think exo-0.7.1 contains the fix. Please give it some testing if possible.
